DR. CHOWLANI MANPOONG WON YOUNG RESEARCHER AWARD IN THE FIELD OF FORESTRY


Dr. Chowlani Manpoong is currently serving as Assistant Professor in the Department of Forestry, Wildlife & Environmental Science at Guru Ghasidas Vishwavidyalaya (A Central University), Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh, India since September 2022. He previously worked as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Crop Production, Faculty of Agricultural Sciences, Arunachal University of Studies, Namsai, Arunachal Pradesh, for over five years.
He holds a Ph.D. in Forestry, with research focused on “Influence of Rhizosphere on Soil Fertility in Different Land Use Systems of Mizoram.” His academic journey also includes significant M.Sc. research on root distribution and soil characteristics in Tephrosia candida stands.

Teaching & Research Contributions

With more than 8 years of teaching experience, Dr. Manpoong has guided undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral students in forestry and environmental sciences. He has supervised Ph.D. research and contributed to capacity-building through training, invited talks, and resource person activities. His research expertise lies in rhizosphere ecology, soil fertility, biodiversity conservation, agroforestry systems, and sustainable land-use practices.

He has actively worked in national projects, including DBT-funded studies on the impact of shifting cultivation (jhuming) in Northeast India, biodiversity assessments in tiger reserve buffer zones, and consultancy projects under UP-CAMPA for monitoring and evaluation of forestry works.
