DR. MANASHI DAS PURKAYASTHA WON YOUNG RESEARCHER AWARD IN THE FIELD OF FOOD TECHNOLOGY


Dr. Manashi Das Purkayastha (B.Sc. – Gold Medalist; M.Sc. – Gold Medalist; Ph.D. in Food Engineering & Technology, Tezpur University) is currently serving as Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Food Technology at Assam Skill University, Mangaldai, Assam. She previously worked for over 10 years as Assistant Professor at Assam Agricultural University (AAU), Jorhat, where she was the founding faculty of the Food Science & Technology Programme under the Department of Horticulture.

Research Interests

Her research focuses on protein chemistry, bioactive nutraceuticals, nanomaterials, and biopolymers for food and industrial applications. She has authored numerous research articles in reputed international journals, as well as several reviews and book chapters.

Significant Achievements

  • Guided multiple post-graduate students, including international scholars.

  • Served as PI in three ad-hoc research projects with significant grant amounts and Co-PI in two projects worth ₹1 crore each.

  • Recipient of prestigious awards including DST-INSPIRE Fellowship (2010–2014), UGC Meritorious Scholarship (2008), Prof. Buta Ram Memorial Award (2009), ICAR-World Bank NAHEP Overseas Training Award (2019), Young Women Scientist Award (2020), and Young Achiever's Award (2021).

  • Qualified ICAR-NET (Food Technology) and GATE (XL-Life Sciences with Food Technology).

Leadership & Contributions

  • Founding faculty member of the Food Science & Technology Programme at AAU.

  • Serving as Head, Department of Food Technology, Assam Skill University.

  • Actively engaged as a resource person, external examiner, and paper setter for various Food Technology and Nutrition courses.
