Dr. A. V. Srinivasan's Philanthropy, Academic achievements including Teaching ,work in clinical neurology, research contributions, have made a significant impact in the Medical Field and has earned him widespread respect and recognition
Free Services: Dr. Srinivasan founded the AVS Brain Charitable Trust in 2010 to provide free consultation, medicines, and food to poor patients suffering from brain disorders. He has been offering these services every Thursday for over 550 weeks, benefiting more than 60,000 patients. The trust also conducts patient education programs and has published books in Tamil to raise awareness about neurological disorders.
Academic Achievements: Dr. Srinivasan holds professional degrees and advanced medical degrees from prestigious institutions such as the Madras Medical College. He obtained an M.B.B.S., M.D. General Medicine, and D.M. Neurology from the Madras Medical College. Additionally, he received a Ph.D. from the Tamil Nadu Dr. MGR Medical University, becoming the university's first-ever Ph.D. recipient in Neurology. Dr. A. V. Srinivasan was awarded the Doctor of Scienc(Dsc) Honoris Causa by The Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University in January 2011. This prestigious recognition highlights his significant contributions and achievements in the field of neurology. The honor is conferred as an honorary degree, recognizing his exceptional expertise, dedication, and service in the medical profession.
Teaching and Guest Lectures: Dr. Srinivasan has served as a chief guest and delivered lectures at various prestigious events and institutions. He was the Chief Guest at the 185th Graduate Reception Day at Madras Medical College, where he spent 50 golden years as a student, faculty, and Emeritus Professor. He also gave the 8th Memorial Lecture at the 117th Founders Day of PS educational Society and delivered a guest lecture on Global Health at the Department of Biochemistry, DG Vaishnav College.
Research Contributions: Dr. Srinivasan developed the AVS CUV criterion, a new criterion for Neuroleptic Malignant Syndrome, which gained recognition in the world literature. He also developed a technique to reduce pain in stroke and phantom limb conditions by stimulating large fiber sensations. Notably, he presented the world's first case of Unconscious Sensory Perception in collaboration with Prof. Dr. V. S. Ramachandran.
Awards and Honors: Dr. Srinivasan has received numerous awards and honors for his contributions to the field of neurology. Some notable awards include the International Lions Award in 2018, Seva Bhushan Award by Karnataka Brahmins Association in 2019, and the Tanker Foundation award in 2019. He has won more than 31 awards and honors both nationally and internationally.
Book Publications: Dr. Srinivasan has authored and edited 40 books on various neurological conditions, including Parkinson's disease, stroke, epilepsy, headache, depression, head injury, autism, vertigo, and mind and brain. He has also edited a book titled "Jewels in The Crown of Indian Academy of Neurology" that features all the presidents of the Indian Academy of Neurology.
