DR. VENKATESAN GOVINDAN WON BEST SCIENTIST AWARD IN THE FIELD OF MYCOLOGY


Dr. Venkatesan Govindan serves as an Associate Professor in the P.G. and Research Department of Botany at M.R. Government Arts College, Mannargudi. With over two decades of teaching and research experience, he has made significant contributions to the fields of plant mycology, fungal diversity, and fungal biotechnology. His academic career began in 2002, conducting practical sessions in mycology at Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda College, Chennai. He later joined Mannai Rajagopalaswami Government Arts College as a Guest Lecturer in 2004 and became a permanent faculty member in 2007.

Teaching and Research Experience

Dr. Govindan has a teaching career spanning over 20 years and 24 years of extensive research experience in mycology, plant diversity, and environmental sciences. He has guided numerous Ph.D. and M.Sc. students in life sciences, nurturing the next generation of researchers. His expertise includes the isolation, identification, and maintenance of various fungi, such as endophytic fungi, soil fungi, litter fungi, aquatic fungi, and mushrooms.
