MR. ANIL KUMAR TRIPATHY WON YOUNG SCIENTIST AWARD IN THE FIELD OF CHEMICAL ENGINEERING


Mr. Anil Kumar Tripathy is a dedicated Chemical Engineer and Researcher specializing in extractive metallurgy, mineral processing, and material science. With over 10 years of experience, he has contributed to cutting-edge pyro-hydrometallurgical process development, reactor design, and fluid mechanics. He holds a B.Tech in Chemical Engineering from Biju Patnaik University of Technology, India (2012) and an M.Sc. (Engineering) from the University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa (2021).

Currently, he is pursuing a Ph.D. in Mining and Metallurgical Engineering at Curtin University, Australia, working on the valorization of hydrometallurgical effluents in iron ore upgrading, under the HILT CRC-funded project.

Significant Achievements

Mr. Tripathy has received multiple awards for his contributions to metallurgical research and industrial process innovation, including:

  • Fourth Prize (Rs. 1 lakh) in the "Grand Fly Ash Utilization Challenge" (2018-19) by NTPC.
  • HDR Scholarship from Curtin University, Australia, for doctoral research.
  • Master’s Degree Scholarship from University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa.
  • 10 publications in high-impact international journals.
  • 7 papers presented at international conferences.

Notable Contributions

Mr. Tripathy has made significant contributions to mineral processing, extractive metallurgy, and sustainable resource utilization, including:

  • Patent Holder:
    • Pyro-hydrometallurgical process for the recovery of alumina and calcium silicate from fly ash.
    • Process for producing Bayer’s grade alumina trihydrate (ATH) from coal fly ash.
  • Technology Development: 
    • Developed processes for metallurgical-grade alumina and rare earth extraction from coal fly ash.
    • Developed a technology for waste aluminum dross utilization.
    • Developed a technology to produce aluminum fluoride from coal fly ash using hydrofluorosilicic acid, a waste product from the fertilizer industry.
  • Industrial Research & Process Engineering:
    • Led pilot-scale carbo-chlorination studies on bauxite at Gharda Chemicals Ltd., Maharashtra.
    • Worked as a production engineer in ferroalloy production at SAL Steel Ltd., Gujarat.
  • Research Fellowships & Collaborations: Contributed to projects at CSIR-IMMT, India, in collaboration with NALCO and NTPC, focusing on fly ash utilization and recovery of metal values.
