Dr. R. Bhima Rao born in the year 1952 is at present Advisor to Mineral Industries specially to Indian Rare Earths Limited Department of Atomic Energy, Govt. of India. He is also Director to Aryan Institute of Engineering and Technology [Bijupatnaik University of Technology], Bhubaneswar, a formerly CSIR-Professor & Chief Scientist, Institute of Minerals and Materials Technology (CSIR), Govt. of India, Bhubaneswar after completing his double post graduation from college of Science and Technology and college of Engineering, Andhra University, Visakhapatnam. He was also Principal to Aryan Institute of Engineering and Technology.

Dr. Bhima Rao has obtained doctorate degree in Mineral Engineering from Indian School of Mines, Dhanbad. He has visited Lulea University of Technology, Lulea, Sweden as a Guest Researcher. He has gained in-depth knowledge and experience in the fields of characterization, liberation of values/gangue from the ore, fine particle processing, selection, scaling up and operational problems of comminution circuits, gravity concentration, magnetic separation, flotation, auditing/ modification and process flow sheet developments for various ores, mineral and metallurgical wastes from different operating Indian mineral processing industries.

Due to his exemplary work on beneficiation, a few beneficiation plants have been set up in India. The know–how on use of additives in grinding for energy saving in comminution plants has been accepted by few mineral industries. To his credit he has a few patents and more than 300 publications in International and National journals among these publications beach placer mineral publications are accounting to 115. He has delivered a large number of invited lecturers in National and International organizations. He is fellow and life members for many organized many seminars, symposia and workshops. His main fields of interests are comminution, process flow sheet development for lean and off grade ores, waste recycling and utilization. In this area he is expert member for various Government organizations such as Member for Bureau of Indian Standards, UPSC, SSC, BRNS, UGC, CSIR, DST, and Government of India and for few academic institutions. Now his vitae is published in the International Directory of Distinguished Leadership and is a Board of Advisors for the American bibliographical Institute professional societies and fulfilled his duties as president and as secretary. He has. He is Chief Editor and editor for many international and national journals. He has produced a few Ph D and M. Tech degree awarded students in the area of mineral processing. He has received many Gold and Silver Medals and certificates for his best papers and recognitions especially in the area of additives in grinding. The National Mineral Award in the area of mineral beneficiation (instituted under the National Mineral Award Scheme of Ministry of Mines) is one of his prestigious recognitions. He also received the international award Asia Pasific Engineer of the year 2024 award. An award has been introduced in the name of Dr. Raghupatruni Bhima Rao in the area of Chemical Engineering for best papers published in the annual technical volume of IEI, OSC, Bhubaneswar.
