Prof. Dr. Hariharan Avlnsh is a distinguished academician and retired Professor of Chemistry at GITAM University, India, with an outstanding career in higher education and research spanning more than three decades. He dedicated 34 years to GITAM University and an additional 3 years to S.V. Junior College, making a remarkable contribution to chemistry education at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

He specialized in Engineering Chemistry, having taught B.E./B.Tech students for over 33 years, shaping the academic foundation of thousands of engineering graduates. Alongside his teaching, he has accumulated 32 years of extensive research experience, with a focus on environmental chemistry, industrial waste management, and solvent extraction techniques.

Research Contributions & Guidance

Prof. Avlnsh has significantly contributed to applied research in environmental management and industrial waste recovery, leading 5 sponsored research projects funded by UGC and APCOST. His projects explored areas such as:

  • Recovery and reuse of industrial contaminants in Visakhapatnam

  • Modeling of manganese extraction from ferromanganese slag

  • Recovery of toxic metals from electroplating effluents and dry batteries

  • Separation and determination of chromium from tannery effluents

As a recognized research guide at Andhra University, Acharya Nagarjuna University, GITAM University, and SKD University, he has successfully guided 4 M.Phil. and 7 Ph.D. scholars, producing competent researchers in the field.

His publication record includes 88 research papers (28 in Scopus-indexed journals, 33 in UGC journals, and 28 others), along with 4 book chapters published with reputed publishers, reflecting his impactful scholarly contributions.
